June 2007: The Tadworth Residents Association (TWRA) has agreed to write a Village Design Statement (VDS).
The VDS is a document that will help to preserve the character and identity of our villages by setting out clear and simple guidance for the design of all developments. This is the best way to ensure that our villages are not, in the future, engulfed by inappropriate 'urban fringe' developments. We will be keeping you up to date with the progress of this project.
Village Design Statements are a government initiative managed by the Countryside Agency and set out clear and simple guidance for the design of all developments in a village. The scheme has significant benefits but can only be achieved with a considerable amount of work, organization and commitment by the local community with the assistance of our councillors and local planning officers. VDS have already been completed by several Surrey villages including Grayshott, Woldingham, Lingfield, Cranleigh, Dunsfold, Wonersh and Chobham. This would seem to be the best route to ensuring that our villages are not, in the future, engulfed by inappropriate 'urban fringe' developments.
The document will aim to set out clear and simple guidance for the design of all developments in a village and we will be keeping you up to date with the progress of this project.
Do you want to influence the future of your village? If you hear about any possible large development, particularly of flats let us know. It is important to write to your local councillors and let them know what you think (see here) or send your comments by email to customer.services@reigate-banstead.gov.uk
